Out of touch. Out of touch. Out of touch.

The private sector is doing fine.
The private sector is doing fine.
The private sector is doing fine.
How many times have you heard that line in the past week on TV?
President Obama probably regrets that he ever uttered those words, and although they may not have been what he meant to say, he said them nonetheless, and the Mitt Romney folks are relentlessly beating him over the head with them.
Can’t say we blame them.  The president of the United States seems to be out of touch with reality  or at the very least he said some of the dumbest words we’ve ever heard from a president.
It reminds us of former vice president Dan Quayle who seemed to put his foot in his mouth about every time he opened it.
Who could ever forget his line: “I love California, I practically grew up in Phoenix.”
  Duh.
And George W. Bush was just about as bad:  “Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?”
  Ouch.
Everyone mistakenly says something now and then, but for a president to claim that the private sector of the economy is “doing fine” is outrageous. The facts prove otherwise.
Here in Lincoln County, North Carolina, the private sector is NOT doing fine, Mr. President. Local businesses continue to go belly-up every week, and there is no end in sight.
Just this week we heard from a small business owner who said that he is having the worst year yet in his 12-year history.
Take a look the next time you drive along Highway 73 or Highway 16. Vacant spaces are almost as common around here as used car lots.
It seems that just as soon as one business opens, another business shuts its doors. The small business failure rate in the Denver area is astronomical, and frankly, we see no sign of steady improvement anytime soon.
No, Mr. President, the private sector is NOT doing fine.   Did you grow up in Phoenix, California? Is you learning?
